Atto Uno: Our story begins years ago in Italy with a chance romantic encounter. A beautiful Colombian girl is studying Biology and has a comic book pedestrian collision with a young man selling tomatoes by the street. Tomatoes fly everywhere as the boy and girl fall in love at first sight. The boy has been cooking in restaurants since he was 14, and over the next years the couple open restaurants in Italy, Colombia and the United States before scaling it all down to one, Contadino, just past the toll booth on the road to the east out of Bogota.
Atto Due: Jump to the present (today minus three months) - The son Claudio opens his first, of what we hope to be many, restaurant in Bogota. Da Claudio’s is small, casual and comfortable and the menu is designed to perfectly complement its surroundings.
Intervallo: Upon a recommendation from Claudio, we started with the sopa de tomate and the antipasto. Claudio claims that people travel from far and wide simply for the tomato soup and I believe him. Delizioso. Meraviglioso. The antipasto is another treat worth exploring: a heaping plate with roasted red peppers, hummus, grilled zucchini, sundried tomatoes, pickled eggplant and mini mozzarellas served with scrumptious wood oven bread.
Atto Tre: More treats from the wood oven: Panzerotti (for those with just a little room left) or a personal sized pizza. There is no need to mess with perfection so I recommend the classic margarita pizza. Claudio also offers up some pasta dishes that I am looking forward to trying and of course - eggplant parmesan.
Finale: Nutella pizza with strawberries and bananas and a big-o-cup of Illy Italian coffee is sure to have this fat lady singing to end the fabulous show.
