Hugo must think:  “Let them eat Chocolate.”  During my tour in Caracas I could rarely find milk, eggs, or sugar, but I could always find fabulous Venezuelan chocolate.  Lucky for me, and for all y’all, I can still find this exquisite chocolate right here in Bogota, right in my hood!  Ana Maria Mini is a Venezuelan Georgetown graduate turned chocolatier owner/chef of Coti Cacao & Chokola’j, and she used only Venezuelan and Belgian chocolates for her fabulous treats.  Three months ago she very conveniently opened her Chocolate Lounge four short blocks from my apartment.  No golden ticket required, so please pop by for all your chocolate needs.

The year is full of occasions to give a little (or in my case - BIG) box of chocolates to a friend to say ‘thanks,’ ‘get well,’ ‘sorry,’ or just ‘it’s Thursday!’  Coti has a huge display teaming with delicious, unique bonbons and truffles, and the cutest little (or for me - BIG) boxes to place them in.  Be sure to double up on the both the curry and potato chip bonbons, and if you are buying them for me, go ahead and double up on the maracuya ones as well.  (See why you need the BIG box?)

Bonbons and truffles are only the beginning; Coti offers so many more exotic flavors, exquisite aromas, and harmonious combinations.  I fell in love with Coti as soon as I opened the menu and saw that it started with the deserts.  As hard as it was, I did venture further and found some tempting options.  Coti is a Chocolate Lounge after all so the menu is oozing with chocolate deliciousness; however, for those of you with defective cacao-receptors, Coti does offer an array of non-chocolate treats as well: salads, quiches, sandwiches and pizzas.

My body actually screams for chocolate so I took advantage of my trip to Coti to shush it for a bit.  Being the only soup on the menu, the chocolate soup (made with coconut milk and white wine) was a must-have for my soup loving amigo.    Warm, delicious, and served with big-o-chucks of banana.  After helping him out with the soup, I opted for the chocolate and bleu cheese pizza.  Yes, odd as it sound it is really quite delicious.  Next – a lovely roast beef sandwich with sprouts and a house salad served on warm, crunchy, fresh bread for my friend, and a scrumptious little ramekin of white chocolate Crème Brule for me.  Mmmmmmmmmagnificent.

In a few weeks you will be able to enjoy a full brunch with champagne mojitos, pancakes, eggs, waffles, and BACON on weekends, but you don’t need to wait.  Coti’s current menu is full of light delicious treats you can enjoy for breakfast, lunch or dinner or anytime in between.  Coti also has in a lovely outdoor patio echoing with smooth house music – the perfect place to enjoy a glass of my current favorite red wine, Altos Las Hormigas, and a warm chewy brownie.
